Why cant it be about the music?
I have recently been working on a social media campaign for production company. One of the challenges that many business owners face is that their customers may not be as passionate about the topic as they are.
Halloween is the perfect time to develop social media for an event. With so many things to talk about and so many people excited about costumes it is a web ninja’s dream job to get some traction across facebook and twitter. While working on this campaign with two very talented DJ’s one said to me, why can’t our page be about the music?
I realized that regardless of the business you own this is the difference between doing social media and doing social media well. Start by clearly defining your target audience. In this case the owner would like to grow the events to different cities and draw crowds of over 3000 people. I asked if all 3000 of those people would be as devoted and in to music as he is. The answer was less than 10% would be.
Driven by passion most business owners would love to cover their facebook page with things they are passionate about. Unfortunately in this case the 4 posts of new music daily actually reduced the impressions and interaction on the page.
